General Questions

What is your tutoring philosophy at B Wise?

My approach is focused on building confidence and strong foundations. I believe every child learns best in a calm, structured environment where they feel safe to ask questions and enjoy the process of discovery.

What experience do you have as a teacher?

I am a qualified primary teacher with over 8 years of classroom experience. I graduated from the University of Greenwich and have worked extensively with children across both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.

Do you offer support for children with low confidence?

Absolutely. Confidence is at the heart of what I do. By using a calm, reassuring method and creating a 'brave' space for learning, I help children overcome anxiety and start seeing results quickly.

Where do the tutoring sessions take place?

All sessions take place at my home tutoring space in Hempstead, Medway. It is a quiet environment to minimize distractions and maximize learning.

Session Details

Find out more about how Bethan structures each session to provide a calm, effective, and encouraging learning experience for your child.

How long are the sessions?

Regular 1:1 and group tutoring sessions usually last 50 minutes. Our specialist 11+ intensive preparation courses are 3.5 hour sessions to allow for deep focus and exam practice - this includes 3 hours of tutoring with a 30 minute break.

What is the format of group sessions?

Group sessions are kept small to ensure every child gets individual attention. They are highly collaborative, encouraging children to share ideas and learn from one another in a supportive way.

11+ Preparation

When should we start 11+ preparation?

Most parents start structured preparation in Year 4 or at the beginning of Year 5. This allows plenty of time to build core skills in English, Maths, and Reasoning without feeling rushed or overwhelmed.

Which tests do you cover in your sessions?

I specialise in both the Medway Test and the Kent Test. My sessions cover the specific requirements for these local exams, including Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning, English, and Maths.

What is the success rate for the Medway Test?

While every child is different, my structured approach focuses on building confidence and exam technique. Many of my students successfully gain entry to their preferred grammar schools in Medway and Kent.

How do you help children who feel anxious about the test?

Confidence is a huge part of 11+ success. I use a calm, reassuring approach and break down complex topics into manageable steps, ensuring children feel supported and capable rather than pressured.
